Day 19: May 25

Only a couple days left and it is flying by! This morning we were able to spend a little extra time at breakfast and I was able to enjoy 2 cups of coffee. It’s the little things in life but it was amazing. We then headed off to school for our first class. The students had to turn in their final projects and give a presentation on them. We had about 4 groups actually present and the rest said they didn’t want to. I don’t think they even did the project because no one turned them in either. They had to create a few different forms of advertisements, write a social media plan, and write a creative brief. Those that did it did a great job! I think they finally have an understanding of the content and are very skilled in design.

After lunch we were able to run back to the hotel for a few minutes. We had to grab some clothes to change into because Taylor is going to play basketball after school with some of the students. Our friend Chee drove us…she is so sweet! She also gave us some going away gifts! She gave us a book of different post cards of Wuhan since we haven’t been able to tour a lot around the city. She also gave us this book of paintings and history of the city. It is really cool!

During the afternoon class, the students had their final exam. This is the last thing they will be doing since tomorrow is our last day of class. I can’t believe it is almost over! I hope they do really well on this exam because they didn’t do to well on the first one. I know they know the content but I don’t think they are confident in it. That is where the problem is.

After class got out we headed over to the stadium to meet up with some of the other SUU people and some more people from WPU. Taylor and Art joined in a game of basketball while we watched. I am pretty good at just watching. I think they lost but I’m not quite sure. It turned into SUU vs. WPU. It was pretty great! Once they were done playing we went downstairs in the building to look at an exhibition going on. It was a display from all the graduates of WPU in design, art, film, architecture, and I’m sure a lot more. It was incredible! These students are all very talented and it was great to see their work.

Then it finally came time for dinner. Some of our students arranged a dumpling dinner/party where we got to make our own dumplings! It was so much fun and a lot easier than I was expecting. It was pretty much just putting the filling on some dough and pinching the sides. It was a great final activity with some of our students!

Once we got back to the hotel I started to pack up all my stuff. Everything I bought fits into my suitcases but I am worried about the weight. I have a personal travel scale and it looks like they are both about 49 pounds. It is going to be close but I think we can shuffle some stuff around if I have to. I can’t believe we are leaving so soon. Tomorrow we have a nice farewell dinner with the staff and faculty and then we are off early Friday morning! It has flown by and I really hope I can come back. I have met some great people and I hope this isn’t the last time I see them in person.
